Curtains accentuate the mood of the room and
help outline the overall theme of the room by creating dramatic changes post
paint and furniture. With plenty of lucrative designs out there, it can become
quite confusing as to which type to settle on. A set of curtains not only needs
to create an impact of its own but should also blend in comfortably with the
atmosphere of the room.
Apart from adding decor, different types of curtain[ผ้าม่าน] serves different functions; they raise ceiling height, provide
necessary shading and change window shapes and heights .To understand which
type suits the room best, it is important to know the different types and
designs.
Solid Curtains
These are safe options when patterns are already
established in the room to offer the remaining balance. Bright curtains can be
added to blend in with other pop ups in the room. However, one must avoid them
if the room colour is more subtle and elegant; in that case, a shade or two
darker colour can give a harmonious look to the room.
Patterned Curtains
If the room is dominated by solid colours,
patterned curtains can be added without any worries. They will provide the much
needed vibrancy and add colour and style to the room. For small airy rooms,
small dots and florals will go well, while for bigger rooms, bold daring
patterns can add lot a lot of drama. Stripes, chevrons give a more elegant
modern feel while medallions and trellises offer a traditional look to the
room.
Draperies
Made of heavy weight fabric, they are mostly
lined or thermal backed. These types block out heat and cold effectively and
look very stylish when draped on to the floor, but that puddles need to be
avoided if the room has limited traffic space. However, to achieve this opulent
look, they need to be ordered several inches longer than the length of the
window.
Roller Blinds
Roller blinds[ม่านม้วน] are ideal option if one is looking to control light into the
room and have privacy. They are energy efficient and give a cozy look whether
used alone or with fabric window fashions.
Roller blinds are of different types- blockout,
translucent, sheer, screen /sheer blinds. Blockouts are ideal for bedrooms as
they block sunlight completely while sheer blinds are ideal for living rooms
with necessary light and heat reduction while maintaining the outside view.
Valances
A valance is a short cloth piece that covers the
uppermost part of the window. They are hung alone usually in kitchen windows
with limited floor space. They can also sit on top of curtains to conceal
drapery rods. Simple hung alone valances add romantic feel to the room while
heavily designed and ornamental valances, commonly referred to as swags,
produce poised curves that add more decorative and elegant feel to the
room.
Scarves
Single, lengthy piece of fabric, a window scarf
is a good solution for an odd sized window that can’t be dressed with standard
size window style curtain. Scarves have a rich elegant character but aren’t
meant to look over embellished. Multiple scarves with contrasting colours can
be used to add punch and if puddled on the floor, they look all the more
graceful.
